Time to Call Senators: Speak Out Against Monsanto Protection Act

Time to Call Senators:  Speak Out Against Monsanto Protection Act

The Monsanto Protection Act is in both houses of Congress.  Monsanto supporters put the provision as a rider on pending Appropriations legislation.  This rider, which could become legislation with a positive vote, puts Monsanto above the law.  The judicial system would lose its power to question or rule on their activities when they violate regulatory provisions or statutes in introducing new GMOs into the marketplace.

You and I have to obey traffic laws, criminal laws, civil laws, etc. or we face penalties, judgments or possibly incarceration.  Can you explain to me why a special sub-segment of an industry should not face what we face?  Is that fairness or justice?

Apparently the vote in the Senate for what’s been labeled the Monsanto Protection Act will happen on next Wednesday, March 27, 2013.  Please contact your two Senators and tell them you want them to support the Tester Amendment 74 regarding the Monsanto Rider.

If you think your phone call is a waste of time, you’re wrong!  In the early portion of my career I worked in two Congressmen’s offices.  Congressional staff members collect number of phone calls on pending legislation (support or against) and report them to their boss.

Here is a list of all U. S. Senators, their state and phone numbers:  U.S. Senator Phone Directory.  If you want to be effective, then only call the Senators from your state.  Even if you can get though to the staff of the other Senators, they probably will count your call in their talley.  –No Name Attorney

Action Alert:  We Have 1 Week Or Less to Stop Genetically Engineered Foods and Destruction of the Separation of Powers

Do We Have a Right to Know If Our Food Has Been Genetically Modified?Painting by Anthony Freda: www.AnthonyFreda.com.

Bill Would Strip Courts of Power … And Push Genetically Modified Foods Onto Our Plates

America has been decimated by the breakdown of the separation of powers between different branches of government. For example, the executive branch is negotiating laws in secret – and grabbing powers – without telling Congress. And life-and-death decisions about who the government labels an “enemy combatant” and assassinates are being kept away from the judges altogether. At the same time, government agencies like the FDA go to great lengths to cover up the potential health damage from genetically modified foods, and to keep the consumer in the dark about what they’re really eating.

Remember, genetically engineered foods have been linked to obesity, cancer, liver failure, infertility and all sorts of other diseases (brief, must-watch videos here and here).Things are about to get a lot worse within the next week … unless we stand up and say “NO!”Specifically, a law has been snuck into the Agriculture Appropriations bill – which will be approved by March 27th – which would destroy the separation of powers by stripping courts of the power to challenge genetically modified foods. How?The “Monsanto Rider” (section 735) uses “farmer-friendly” happy talk, but is an iron-fisted ploy to allow GMO crops to be planted even if a court has ruled that planting them is illegal. If the United States Department of Agriculture – which suffered “regulatory capture” by the big food companies decades ago – approves a genetically modified food without any testing, a court can enjoin (i.e. halt) production of that food until testing occurs.Yet the Monsanto Rider would strip the courts of power, and would allow GMO crops to be planted and put in our food … no matter what a judge has ruled. As the Weston Price Foundation notes:

If a GMO crop approval was shown to violate the law and require further analysis of its harmful impacts (as several courts have concluded in recent years, for example with GMO alfalfa and GMO sugar beets) this provision would override any court-mandated caution and allow continued planting and commercialization while further review takes place. Here’s a good summary of the bill.

Learn to Read Food Labels

Major food companies import food from China. Did you know many of the mandarin oranges are grown in China? Research and you will find many issues with Chinese agricultural practices and government practices that condone or attempt to hide the issues. Dole Mandarin Oranges come from China. Does that motivate you to go purchase this product?

This past weekend I gave a talk (with Q & A’s from the audience–love those! :)) about how to read food labels.  (BTW if your group would like me to speak about this issue, food politics, etc. just send me an email to thrive@northstate.net and we’ll discuss it.)

Unfortunately still too many people do not understand the issues about genetically modified (GMO) or genetically engineered (GE) foods, MSG, “hidden MSG”, aspartame or rbgh and rbst.

Just as important as those issues is the origin of the country where the foods are grown.  Let’s face it, some countries have better agricultural practices than others.  I know that I want to avoid as much as possible all imported foods from China or Southeast Asia.  Beyond their questionable agricultural practices, government corruption and history of contaminated food, I try my best to avoid buying products from China.  Our nation owes them too much money and some day we are going to get a much nastier boomerang than we are currently experiencing from this foreign trade imbalance.

I came across this article that has a basic explanation of the “organic” labeling program with some links for research.  I hope it conveys one reason why reading your food labels are important for your health and your purse!  –No Name Attorney

Organic Labels Come in Different Shapes and Sizes

Organic labels and their cousins abound. Here’s a look at some of the most  important labels consumers will see in grocery stores.

By Brian Clark Howard

Labeling may not seem like a particularly exciting topic, but it is extremely  important to those with nut allergies, diabetics and those busy people  everywhere who rely on labels to know what’s inside the foods they eat. Consider  the heated controversy over whether genetically engineered foods should be  explicitly labeled, or the ongoing fight over country-of-origin seals and how  that relates to recent scares over food imported from China.  When it comes to the much-touted word “organic,” there is much at stake. Not  only is the sector the fastest growing in the food industry, but also advocates  are positioning organics as a great hope in the battle to protect the  environment from the ravages of industrial agriculture and even oil-fueled  climate change. There are perhaps as many detailed definitions of “organic” as  there are farmers, chefs and consumers. But here are some of the most important  labels:

Motivation, Mission and Vision

Motivation, Mission and Vision

What’s motivated me to start Survive-Thrive?  What’s the Mission and the Vision?

When I connect the dots—my career experience, background and the medical challenges I’ve battled—I want to help others so they don’t have to have the same or similar health experiences.  Multiple life threatening situations these past few years got my full attention.

This journey though dark corridors of severe pain and suffering has a higher purpose that God can use for His glory.

Life has joy and sorrow.  No matter how tragic or painful the event, we don’t have to stay stuck in the negative.  We can embrace the challenge and gleam pearls from our trials and tribulations.

The choice is ours:  Are you going to make lemonade from the lemons?

Each of us is made in the image of our Creator.  He does have a purpose (or many purposes) for each of us.  We have the responsibility to find that purpose.

When I considered everything that’s happened in the past few years, the many blessings I have and where I feel He is leading me, it resulted in this food, health and economic ministry.

Mission and Vision

  • Encourage wise food, health and economic stewardship.
  • Educate consumers how GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and  excitotoxins may be a cause or trigger of chronic health conditions and allergies.
  • Help consumers save money on their food household budget.
  • Share how longer range planning helps mitigate the impact of food inflation.
  • Motivate others to reexamine the quality of their diet and whether their current diet is impacting their health.
  • Stimulate analytical and critical thinking skills when evaluating food, health and economic news.
  • Unite with other motivated individuals in various locations in the world who want to encourage others in improving the quality of our food, health and financial resources.

About New Page  “* NEWS TO KNOW *”

There’ so much fluidity with food, health and economic news.  We’re experiencing information overload.

Survive-Thrive’s “* News to Know*” is different in how it aggregates news.

When I share an article, I’ll sometimes add comments.  It could be an assessment or nothing more than asking questions as I would in the classroom teaching my MBA students.  It does not mean I agree with the author.  I may be only posting an article to show another perspective on an issue.

The objective is encouraging deeper analytical and critical thinking of shared news rather than accepting  what the original author writes.

News stories are written by fallible humans.  Despite one’s best attempt to be even handed they are still writing from the lens of their world.    It’s unfair to authors to put the responsibility on them for our analysis of the news.

If we are to have better health, be wiser stewards of our financial resources, etc., then we must get off the bench and get into the game.  Passing the buck is unacceptable.  In that process we are accountable.  Everyone’s involvement is valuable.

Positive change will occur for our country when we at the ground level demonstrate positive change.  Our integrity must rise to the top and influence our leaders instead of vice versa.  If you don’t study the cause(s) then how are you going to find the solution(s)?  Are you just treating the symptoms or are you trying to cure the disease?

We must get engaged and be accountable.  Survive-Thrive promotes positive change by encouraging others to be actively involved.

Food Allergens & Reactives:

Are They Disruptive To Our Immune System?

Too many Americans suffer from food allergies, whether from known or unknown issues.  Allergies are one of the ways our body lets us know that our immune system is NOT functioning as it should.

Independent of this,  over 80% of the food we buy in grocery stores contains one or more GMO (genetically modified organism) ingredients.  Many long term food storage companies likewise use GMOs.

How many long term food storage companies are willing to put in writing that they are selling you non-GMO or organic food?

Ask yourself:

Do you consider food  “gourmet” or “premium” if one or more of a meal’s ingredients came from seeds which are genetically modified by having different organisms inserted into the seed so it could be more resistant to a pesticide, such as Roundup?

Do you think that foods grown from those seeds are exposed to more pesticides by all the spraying of the farm fields?

Or what if those seeds were injected with a natural bug and worm killer, such as BT, to make corn crops more resistant to pests?

Do you consider foods grown with such corporate farming techniques “gourmet” or “premium” if some of the ingredients could potentially affect our DNA or our immune system?

Thrive Life puts in writing which of its food items are GMO free and Gluten Free.   (Click here for Thrive Allergen Report)  They want their customers to get the healthiest food possible.  They identify potential allergens so you can make informed choices.  A part of that commitment publicly they made the commitment in 2014 that new products introduced would not have any GMOs, even those which are “processed” and not whole food items.

The concerns about methods used in corporate farming go beyond plants to meat and dairy products.  Corporate farming puts emphasis on fattening animals faster so they can take them to slaughter earlier.   In accelerating animal growth beyond Mother Nature’s time table, animals are injected with growth hormones.

Bovine growth hormones not only affect the meat but with cows you have to be concerned with the dairy products having elevated IGF in their milk.  Elevated IGFs in long term use may increase one’s risk to cancer. Milk from cows injected with the bovine growth hormone is a major factor in children experiencing earlier puberty.

Finally when buying any prepared long term storage meals you need to consider whether any neurotoxins or excitotoxins are in the ingredients.  Monosodium glutamate (MSG), a neurotoxin, has multiple names given to it by the food processing and manufacturing industry.  It is estimated that approximately 30% of the population may have chemical reactions to MSG. Neurotoxins and excitotoxins  attack your brain cells and nervous system.  They also weaken your immune system.  As your immune system weakens this can make your allergies worse.  Likewise, if you strengthen your immune system you decrease or resolve your allergy symptoms.

The goal is to avoid the allergens and reactives in our food supply.  Thrive foods simplifies one’s efforts to minimize their exposure to allergens and reactives and helps you “purify” your food supplies.
