Public Health Alert: We Must Stop Agent Orange Corn From Entering Our Food Supply

The Traditional Grocery Store Just May Die if We Allow the Government to Approve Agent Orange Corn

Corn and its derivatives (i.e., part of a food processing chemical) is extensive throughout the traditional grocery store offerings.  For example, 14% of the food products in Walmart just contain one corn product, high fructose corn syrup.  Already 88% of the corn in your grocery store is genetically modified. This GM corn, which is not only made Round-up resistant, but has a natural insecticide added inside the seed, called BT, is linked to an array of health issues and conditions affecting our immune system, i.e., allergies, leaky gut syndrome, cancer and an array of other conditions.

When I was growing up in the 1960’s and 70’s (yes, I am “dating” myself) a child or schoolmate having a food allergy was unheard of.  I can only remember one person who had a peanut allergy.

The American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as of 2008 estimated that as many as 15 million Americans, including approximately 6 million children, have food allergies.  They believe that the actual number of food related allergies are underdiagnosed.

If you are concerned about Monsanto’s Round-up/BT GMO corn being linked to increased allergies, just wait until Dow Chemical’s “agent orange corn” starts infiltrating the food processing system.

Because Mother Nature has adapted to Round-up with superweeds that are taller than humans  (despite more and more herbicides being doused into the soil), just wait until the more powerful herbicides with Agent Orange infiltrate our environment and food supply.

The public has been fighting the USDA and the FDA on this issue for more than 2 years.  We can’t give up this fight unless we want the traditional grocery store, which is very ill, finally destroyed as a reliable, safe place for purchasing our products.

Now it looks like the USDA is going to green-light Dow’s “Agent Orange” corn and soybeans.

The time for petitioning has been extended until March 11th.  Please read the petition and consider signing it.

If this filters in look for an implosion of food allergies, chronic disease, cancer, etc.  Already over 2 million people are now allergic to corn alone.

If they keep on, those who value having good, healthy foods and selectively shop at supermarkets in trying to avoid the risk of the “agent orange” fallout, will be displaced to growing their own food, adopting aquaponics (not cheap), finding organic and non-gmo farms, etc., which is time consuming and more complicated for those residing in large urban areas.

Two years ago I did research on Dow Chemical, its legacy and the controversial “Agent Orange” corn.  What I wrote then is relevant today.  I ask that you consider it.

Dow Agent Orange Corn and Its Threat to Humanity

No-Name Attorney

(February, 2102)

We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.

Benjamin Franklin, at the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Introduction

Before talking to about the quality of our lives, our children’s lives and future generations’ well-being at risk by Dow Chemical wanting to introduce “Agent Orange” corn into our food supply, I want you share some history and the power of the American people.

Probably my favorite American statesman in history was Benjamin Franklin. He had such brilliance in science, history, politics, newspaper editor, and even wisdom.  He was far from a perfect person, with a special penchant towards sexual escapades, as it is said he had over 106 illegitimate children.  Despite his personal failures, he did have some great wisdom for the Colonies, or the newly formed United States of America.   His Poor Richard’s Almanac was famous for its wise and clever sayings to his countryman.

Ben is right on this one: together is better than separate. When people join together for a good cause or purpose, they’re much more powerful, almost creating an energy force greater than the sum. When we do our individual act, the “lone wolf” thing, we’re much easier to suppress and silence.

There is tremendous power in numbers, even when any “control” group tries to manipulate us. We allow others to control us many times by telling us that we can’t do things, we don’t have the power, etc. Think of the child that is browbeaten by a negative parent.  Does that child grow up in essence being tied up in an invisible straight jacket? And what happens when that child wants out of that straight jacket, wants to be set “free” of the “mental” bondage?

He soars!

We, Americans (and the rest of the world who will eventually be negatively impacted), need to soar.  Big corporate Dow (Chemical) agra is seeking permission from the FDA to create their version of GMO (genetically modified organisms) or GE (genetically engineered) corn. I hate to say it but it seems that this version of corn will be even more dangerous than Monsanto’s BT corn !! (Monsanto inserts glyphosate-Roundup-and Bacillus thuringiensis toxins into the seeds to make them purportedly more resistant to weeds, insects worms and pests.)

Here Comes Agent Orange” Corn Unless We Rise Up

Agent Orange was manufactured by Monsanto and Dow Chemical.

Do you remember the Agent Orange of Vietnam that poisoned the Vietnamese, Laotians, Cambodians and our soldiers?

According to Stars and Stripes (August 11, 2011) the devastation to our Vietnam veterans is growing with claims of over 84,000 for heart disease and B-Cell leukemia.  Another 74,000 claims were pending for “presumptive” Agent Orange conditions.

Even the Veteran’s Administration acknowledges (http://www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/agentorange/conditions/index.asp) that vets exposed to Agent Orange are at risk for certain cancers and diseases from their exposure, including:

  • AL Amyloidosis
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Chronic B-cell Leukemias
  • Chloracne (or similar acneform disease)
  • Diabetes Mellitus Type 2
  • Hodgkin’s Disease
  • Ischemic Heart Disease
  • Multiple Myeloma
  • Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Acute and Subacute Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Porphyria Cutanea Tarda
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Respiratory Cancers (including lung cancer)
  • Soft Tissue Sarcomas (other than osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Kaposi’s sarcoma, or mesothelioma)

Unfortunately this is just the tip of the iceberg.  This toxin, like other toxins, changes the DNA of a person exposed.  This means that the “created” genetic breakdowns get passed on from generation to generation.  The VA acknowledges that Vietnam veterans’ children with congenital deformities and conditions came from their parent’s exposure, i.e., spinal bifida occulta.

For the Vietnamese, they have even a more tragic experience (if our soldiers’ experience was not enough).

By 1971 over 19,000,000 gallons of Agent Orange and other combined toxic herbicides were dumped in Vietnam, mainly in the middle region of the country.  These people are suffering from cancers, neurological conditions and birth defects some 40+ years later.

Today Vietnam has among the highest number of birth defects per capital in the world.”

Many babies are stillborn with serious malformations.  Look at this picture taken by STR New/Reuters and published by Time magazine on December 19, 2009

Agent orange deformed babies

From Time Magazine, December 19, 2009

Here are some photos of children who survived the birthing process, which should strike anyone’s conscience, are “mild” (yet considerable birth defects) compared to the Reuters/Time photo and the video footage I have seen on YouTube.

What the Vietnam experience shows is Agent Orange, and its dioxin, gets into the soil, the water, the fish, etc. and it seems to have a life of its own After 40 years it is still going strong.  In one of the reference videos below a Vietnamese scientist says he expects it will still be there for at least 100 years.

We already have issues with Roundup, where it is used, contaminating soil, lakes, drinking water supplies, etc.

Can you imagine what it will be like if this Dow GMO Agent Orange Corn gets approved and teams up with the Monsanto BT GMO corn? Independent of the health risks when we eat it (as with our experience with antibiotics) over time, resistance develops and so more of the herbicide will be required. Its a damaging, vicious, poisonous circle.

What Can I Do?

We have to get engaged. We need to sign petitions against Dow’s Agent Orange Corn seeking FDA approval.  The cut-off is February 27th for signing the petition.  After signing the petition, call at least 10 people and tell them that you are sending them information that might interest them. Forward to as many people you personally know the petition link, this email or write your own email.  You want them to be looking for it in case it ends up in the junk or spam folder. Encourage them to call and forward to 10 or more people. That’s the first step.

The Institute for Responsible Technology has a good petition drafted. I’ve already signed it. Here’s the link:

If you receive this after February 27th, 2012, then I still encourage you to voice your concern to the FDA’s Biotechnology Division (http://www.fda.gov/Food/Biotechnology/default.htm).  On their page they list the following contact information:

Things like this happening (or being attempted) is why you need to know the source of your food.  Try to buy only organic and non-GMO foods. Grocery stores will not voluntarily label produce or cans that have GMO ingredients.  (If they did that I suspect the food would not sell or sales would be decreased.)

Grow your own garden.

Buy locally from farmers or farmers markets. Just because a vendor is selling at a farmers market does not mean you are safe from GMO produce.  (At my local farmers market all the vendors did not have organic produce. I do not have this option.)

Stay connected to internet websites that report on GMOs.  Some excellent sites are:

 www.responsibletechnology.org

www.naturalnews.com

www.greenmedinfo.com

Tell friends, family, co-workers and acquaintances about GMOs and their risks to our health and our environment.

These agra bio-tech companies are increasing their GMO activities, research and intensities.  This means you have to stay current and engaged.

Remember, companies like Monsanto, Dow Chemical want you to sit on the sidelines and not get involved.  Ask yourself:  Are you willing to give these companies in essence de facto control over you and your family’s lives?

GMO Wheat: Unapproved GMO Wheat Found in Oregon, Other States Possible

GMO Wheat:  Unapproved GMO Wheat Found in Oregon, Other States Possible

If you’re a farmer or know one that grows wheat, you need to have your crops tested as to whether they’ve been cross-contaminated.  If you have some of your seed left from planting this year’s crop, have it tested.

Monsanto bullies farmers who experience cross contamination, when Monsanto patented seeds spread to non-GMO crops, with litigation.  They are the legal bully of all bullies.  For more see Seed Giants v. U. S. Farmers report.

If Monsanto or its agents come to you asking you (or threatening you if you don’t) to plant their seeds and use their Round-up (glyophosate) at low costs (remember this is initially but is not long term), do not sign that agreement without getting skilled, independent counsel, who is knowledgable in agricultural law and litigation.

Why?  Because these seeds apparently were not government approved but were experiments.  As such it may turn out Monsanto violated the law.  Also, Monsanto appears negligent in containing their experiment.  They are responsible for the cross-contamination unless the government exempted them from liability (which is unlikely with an experiment).

Wheat farmers are going to take a financial beating for this cross-contamination this year as contaminated exports are already starting to get rejected.

If a farmer signs any Monsanto agreement on seeds, etc., trust me, in that agreement you will waive your rights to sue for damages plus that agreement will shift the litigation damages and expenses to you.   The later is standard protoccol in their patented seed agreements.

Instead, farmers should see whether their crops have been contaminated, and if so, document their damages, and get legal counsel.

Farmers might want to contact the Center For Food Safety’s in-house counsel and Executive Director, Andrew Kimball, for a referral to an independent, seasoned agricultural law attorney.  The Center for Food Safety’s phone number is (202) 547-9359.

I suspect a mother of all class action lawsuits awaits Monsanto.  This is one the farmers should address in the courts so they can be fairly compensated.

GMO genetic pollution alert: Genetically engineered wheat escapes experimental  fields planted across 16 states

Mike Adams

(NaturalNews) The genetic apocalypse we’ve been warning about for years may have  already begun. The USDA just announced they found a significant amount of genetically engineered wheat growing in farm fields in Oregon. As the USDA  announced yesterday, “…test results of plant samples from an Oregon farm  indicate the presence of genetically engineered (GE) glyphosate-resistant wheat  plants.”Why is this a big deal? Because GE wheat has never been approved  for commercialization or sale. These strains of GE wheat escaped from GMO  field experiments conducted across 16 states by Monsanto from 1998 to 2005.  As the USDA states, “Further testing by USDA laboratories indicates the presence  of the same GE glyphosate-resistant wheat variety that Monsanto was authorized  to field test in 16 states from 1998 to 2005.”And that means genetic  pollution is already out of control. The GE wheat for which Monsanto claims  patent ownership is now invading farms that never planted GE wheat.

Increase Loss of Crops: Will Bee Colony Collapse Disorder Increase?

Increase Loss of Crops:  Will Bee Colony Collapse Disorder Increase?

I appreciate Anthony’s article.  He is one to follow at his Natural Society website.

If our bee population keeps decreasing from Colony Collapse Disorder, how will our edible plants we grow that need pollination are going to grow?  And what about our supply of honey?

You have to wonder  why our government would approve this with the Colony Collapse Disorder problems we are having with bees?   How well was this researched before approving this?

Don’t you think that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conduct extensive studies on Roundup (glyophosphate) and other pesticides?  Once the genie is out of the bottle, how difficult is it to put it back in?

Think about it!–No Name Attorney

Insanity:  US Approves Bee Death Pesticide as EU Bans It

Corporate politics is business as usual inside the United States, as I am  once again shocked to report the EPA has  sided with industry lobbyists over public health in approving a  highly dangerous pesticide that the European Union recently decided to ban over  fears of environmental devastation. Not only have neonicotinoid  pesticides been linked repeatedly to mass bee deaths, also known as Colony  Collapse Disorder (CCD), but the  continued use of such pesticides threatens other aspects of nature (and humans)  as well.

What’s even more amazing is that the decision not only comes after  the EU publicly  discussed the major dangers surrounding the use of the pesticides, but after  the USDA released a report surrounding the continued honeybee deaths and the  related effects — a report in which they detailed pesticides to be a  contributing factor. Just the impact on the honeybees alone, and we now know  that these pesticides are killing  aquatic life and subsequently the birds that feed upon them, amounts to a  potential $200 billion in global damages per year. We’re  talking about the devastation of over 100 crops, from apples to  avocados and plums.

And there’s countless scientists and a large number of environmental science  groups speaking out on this. The EPA has no  lack of information the subject. And sure, there are other contributing factors  to bee deaths, there’s no question about that. We have an environment right now  being hit with Monsanto’s Roundup even in residential areas, we have chemical  rain, we have insane amounts of EMF — but it’s pretty clear  that neonicotinoid pesticides are at least a major contributing factor. And  beyond that, they have no place in the food supply to begin with.

The Pesticide Action Network (PAN)  details the EU ban that came right before the EPA acceptance of the death-linked   pesticide:

“The EU vote comes after significant findings by the European Food Safety  Agency that these pesticides pose an unacceptable risk to bees and their use  should be restricted. Along with habitat loss and pathogens, a growing body of  science points to neonicotinoid pesticides as a key factor in drastically  declining bee populations.”

So why are they approving this pesticide to now pollute the United States in  what potentially amounts to an even larger capacity than the EU? A move that  will ultimately escalate the price of food worldwide due to the likely nature of  continued bee deaths and subsequent crop impact? That’s the power of phony  corporate science.

Monsanto Protection Act and Your Food Costs

Monsanto Protection Act:  What Will This Do To Food Costs?

Let’s set aside for a moment you have no opinion (or even support) that  genetically modified or genetically engineered foods are a good or bad thing thing.  Let’s also assume that you think Monsanto is even a good corporate citizen or you have no opinion about them.

Monsanto and its colleagues are lobbying the US Senate for a special provision that will make them above the law and hard for the US government to do any regulatory supervision.

Is this wise to give a handful of corporations a choke-hold over our food supply, regardless of whether they are angelic, demonic or indifferent in their corporate conduct?

Giving favoritism or special laws in favor of a few is how monopolies happen.  And monopolies destroy true price finding.  Initially they might lower price to get a foothold on their sector.  They do this in part to squeeze out competition.  Once they think they have a centralized roll, the main players, then they use that to raise prices within that sector.

Let’s look at the current economic mess which in part was created by the Wall Street.  We saw (and are feeling) the harm when a few gets centralized power over an industry segment.  In the case of the financial fiasco caused by the Wall Street liar loans, derivatives mess, etc., now our U.S. Attorney General told a U.S. Senate Committee recently that they are too large to prosecute for their alleged crimes because of the harm that might do to our economy and the world’s economy.

What do you think will happen to the cost of the world’s food supply if Monsanto and minions have things so deregulated that they are their own government and above the law?

Monsanto, Dow Chemical and Syngenta now control 53 percent of the global commercial seed market.  Although Monsanto, DuPont, Syngenta, Bayer and Dow were under antitrust investigation into possible anti-competitive practices in the US seed market (soy, cotton and corn)  since 2010, last year the Obama administration just quietly dropped that investigation.  Do you think that helped out the family farmer?

Do you think that it is somewhat hypocritical that the opponents (Monsanto, Syngenta, Dow Chemical and cohorts) of California Prop 37 Food Referendum, who claimed (arguably falsely) that food labeling would substantially raise food prices during a time of economic troubles are now trying to do actions that will help them gain more of a market share and influence food prices?

So be aware of what is going on from just an economic aspect with our food supply. Monsanto and colleagues are not asking for this “special status” unless it means more of an economic advantage for them.  Just because they’re upset that a federal judge held them to the law (in the judge’s opinion) is no reason for them to be given royalty status or be placed above the law.  If they don’t like the judge’s ruling then appeal it.  That what citizens and other corporations have to do.  Whereas the little man or small business can’t afford an appeal, Monsanto and cohorts are far from being paupers.

Consider signing a petition to the US Senate which objects to Monsanto and cohorts getting special privileges that would allow them to have more power in the marketplace and place them above the law, not within the system.  Read Mr. Gucciardi’s excellent reporting on this topic below.–No Name Attorney

New ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ Gives Monsanto Power Over US Government

monsantoprotectionact 322x201 New Monsanto Protection Act Gives Monsanto Power Over US Government

Photo from www.NaturalSociety.com

There truly is no rest for the wicked, and Monsanto is at war once again against health conscious consumers with the latest ‘Monsanto Protection Act‘, managing to sneak wording into the latest Senate legislation that would give them blanket immunity from any USDA action regarding the potential dangers of their genetically modified creations while under review. The USDA would be unable to act against any and all new GMO crops that were suspected to be wreaking havoc on either human health or the environment.

It’s a legislative weapon that could be passed as early as next week if we don’t gather enough support to force our Senators to eliminate the section. It all started in the late hours of Monday night, when lobbyists working for the Monsanto-fronted biotechnology industry managed to slide a ‘rider’ (through the deceptively worded Farmer Assurance Provision, Sec. 735) into the Senate Continuing Resolution spending bill that is currently on the table of the Senate.

A massive petition to stop what has been labeled as the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ has been launched by Food Democracy Now, detailing what could come if the legislation is signed into law within the coming days or weeks:

If approved, the Monsanto Protection Act would force the USDA to allow continued planting of any GMO crop under court review, essentially giving backdoor approval for any new genetically engineered crops that could be potentially harmful to human health or the environment.

Monsanto Protection Act Trumps US Government

Federal courts would be powerless to regulate the sale and even cultivation of illegal and dangerous GMO crops, succumbing instead to the power of the biotech industry and Monsanto. The same threat we faced last summer during the initial emergence of this act. During that time, we saw major groups assemble against the act, from national farm institutions to food safety titans. The Center for Food Safety, the National Family Farm Coalition, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Sierra Club, and the Union of Concerned Scientists all came together to speak out against the incognito bombshell slipped into the 2012 Farm Bill and the 2013 Agriculture Appropriations Bill.

Natural” or “All Natural” Misleading Food Labels

Natural” or “All Natural” Misleading Food Labels

The Problem:

When you see the word “Natural” or “All Natural” on any food labels a red flag should be raised in your mind.  The ingredients of any product using “Natural” or “All Natural” should be closely examined

Why are “Natural” or “All Natural” Misleading Food Labels?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has no standards or definitions as to what is a “natural” food.  (Compare that to the detailed standards of what is an “organic” food and you’ll see it is the difference between night and day.)

With the lack of any standards, companies just come up with their own definition that fits their marketing plans.  Moreover, the terms “natural” and “all natural” are used on food labels to confuse the consumer into thinking that the food is organic.  Reality is that “natural” foods are far from organic standards, courtesy of the agricultural bio tech companies (i.e., Monsanto, Dow AgroSciences) and the food processing industry.

As the Cornucopia Institute (2011) stated:

…[T]he farms and processing plants that produce ingredients for “natural” foods are not prohibited by law from using dangerous pesticides, genetically engineered crops, fumigants, solvents and toxic processing aids.  These agricultural and manufacturing inputs are not required by law to be listed on ingredient labels.

Misrepresentation, Deceptive “Cancer” Within the Food Processing Industry

The Cornucopia Institute sent several “all natural” and “natural” labeled cereals to an independent research facility for analysis to see whether the claims were accurate.  The results were shocking.  Kashi “Go Lean” found 100% GMO soy in the cereal.  Kix Cereal, advertised as “All Natural Corn” had 56% of its corn content GMO corn.  Barbara’s Puffins cereal, touting a label “All natural since 1971” migrated from being organic to primarily genetically engineered.  There were similar findings for other “all natural” and “natural” cereals and granolas. (Click here for report by Rodale, “11 Natural Cereals That Aren’t”)

Even Monsanto, the company that is at the forefront of genetically modifying the food supply, defines on its corporate website “Gentically Modified Organisms (GMO):

Plants or animals that have had their genetic makeup altered to exhibit traits that are not naturally theirs.  In general, genes are taken (copied) from one organism that shows a desired trait and transferred into the genetic code of another organism.

So do you think these industry food labeling practices amount to misrepresentation, fraud, products liability or unfair and deceptive trade practices?

Some consumers think so and have started suing companies in class action suits.  Frito-Lay (owned by PepsiCo) was sued for misrepresentation, unfair trade and products liability regarding most of their food products. Similar lawsuits have been filed regarding misleading “all natural”  food label claims against Kraft, Kellogg and ConAgra.

I do not blame these consumers.  Since government fails to address these abuses, then maybe more class action lawsuits need to be filed against these companiesIf they are going to use the term “natural” on their food labels then it should convey that the food product is free of “unnatural” ingredients, such as GMOs and pesticide residues.  Additionally the Cornucopia Institute noted these so called “natural” products “are not protected from toxic fumigants used on crops in storage, and toxic solvents used during processing.”

Fight Back & Improve Your Health

Until the government becomes pro-consumer on this issue, you should:

1.        When buying processed food, if the ingredients do not use the term “organic” and has soy, corn, cottonseed oil, canola, refined sugar, sugar beets, crookneck squash, papaya or zucchini, assume GMO seeds were used.

2.        Look for foods labeled organic, GMO free or non-GMOYou can’t assume and trust these days anymore that things are by their marketing presentation.  IT MUST BE ON THE FOOD LABEL OR ON CONTAINED IN A WRITTEN DOCUMENT (i.e. Thrive’s written allergen and product details report) OR IT IS NOT ORGANIC, GMO FREE OR NON-GMO.  This is the only means we have left to hold food manufacturers accountable for what you put inside your body.

3.        Buy meats in which the animal was not given the bovine growth hormone.

4.        Buy dairy products that are rBGH and rbst free.

5.        Stop patronizing food processing manufacturers that use GMOs, have pesticide residues or use fumigants, solvents or toxic processing aids.

Addendum to Post:

Since posting this page, Dr. Mercola, published his own analysis of the situation.  You should read it.  It confirms everything I wrote and more.

My questions to you:

Do you desire to be healthy or want to keep you and your family’s health?

Do you want to spend less money on health care in the long run?

Do you want the best quality of life?

Why would you pay someone or some company your hard earned money for food that puts you at risk and potentially is damaging to your health?

These companies giving us all of these GMOs, putting neurotoxins or excitotoxins in their processed food (to improve their taste and get us “addicted” so they’ll have more sales) will not be there when we suffer with  all numerous serious health conditions and the aftermath.   They also will not be paying your medical bills or watching your savings erode (the financial struggles) trying to treat your illness.

No, they have already laughed their way to their bank.  If you try to sue them, they’ll claim:  (1) Caveat emptor (meaning “buyer beware”); and (2) You can’t prove that they were responsible since so many other food items you bought were contaminated.

The way to win is minimize your riskDon’t buy their food!  When you buy their food you’re subsidizing socially irresponsible conduct.  When you don’t buy their food, you let them accept their just fate.  If enough people did this, these companies will either change their ways or go out of business.

It is really simple.  We have the power.  It only takes a small percentage of people to vote with their dollars to get the job done.  We know the economy is challenged.  These companies are more vulnerable financially than you are.  If they lose a small percentage of business it means either selling their company, shutting it down or filing for bankruptcy protection.
